Since moving to the San Francisco in 2003, Musical Director and Saxophonist Daniel Heffez has been a major player in the Bay Area jazz scene. Hailing from New York City, Daniel is a well respected instrumentalist logging 100’s or performances each year. In addition to leading Nova Jazz, Daniel also performs with Hopsauce, The Eggplant Casino, The Bob Plus and Chum. Daniel has also shared the stage with Lenny Williams from Tower of Power as well as the Family Stone Band. In addition to performing, Daniel also teaches Saxophone to the next generations of jazz musicians.
When not involved with music, Daniel loves to bake bread, specializing in sourdough batards and boules. Let me know if you’d like me to bring a fresh loaf to our event, no extra charge :)
Daniel spends most of his time being inspired by his wife Jennifer Barone, a well know Bay Area Poet and creator of the WordParty, a monthly jazz and poetry open mic that features Jennifer and Daniel (with his band) and a different featured poet each month. Daniel and Jennifer spend their time together hiking on Mt. Tamalpais, traveling around the world and enjoying the North Beagh neighborhood where they have lived for over 10 years.
Daniel works for the YMCA of San Francisco and provides support to after school programs and summer camps for the Presidio, Richmond and Pt. Bonita branches.
Daniel plays a 1957 Selmer Mark 6 Tenor Saxophone, an Otto Link Hard Rubber Tone Master 5* mouthpiece and Vandoren Reeds of 3.5 strength.
